I share Dr. Heiser’s goal of restoring the Christian supernatural worldview to the post-modern audience. With wonderfully detailed and thorough exegesis The Unseen Realm shows the connections between Genesis 6:1-4, Deuteronomy 32:7-9, and Psalm 82, to illuminate the Heavenly Council and the Unseen Realm described in the Bible.
My initial reaction will likely be shared by many readers, “I didn’t know that was in there!” Heiser makes clear that the common, modern, understanding of the Bible wildly misses the ancient understanding of the supernatural realm that surrounds us. In so doing, the modern view also misses many of the essential points of Jesus work and ministry and of our own salvation.
The earth is a fallen world that has been divided by God and given over to control of demonic forces. Wow! Try watching the news tonight with that perspective and it will change everything.
The Unseen Realm also gives us new insight and appreciation for Christ’s life, suffering, death, and resurrection. Jesus stood at the Gates of Hell on the slopes of Mt. Hermon and brought the War to Satan. The Unseen Realm explains it all in a way that has the power to transform our worldviews.
